Two Friends (a story in a poem)

Two friends went out to play one day
Down in the creak and by the bay

They met some youngsters eating pie
They said 'hello', then hurried by,

Down and deeper, farther they went
Until they came to a green-and-blue tent

They peeked inside and saw not a soul
So they went inside, but found a big hole.

They fell down the hole, with Linda on top
Until they came to a large abrupt stop

They were trapped in a hole with nothing to do
Linda was hungry, and Betty was too

They finally decided to call for help
But no one could hear a single yelp

Then an idea came to Betty
The plan was good and she knew she was ready

They slowly dug holes in that muddy dirt wall
They dug till each step was one inch tall

Then slowly they climbed up that wall that they made
And ran home before the sun could fade.
